Alpha

The Alpha Course starts Wednesday 16 May, meet at 7pm, eat at 7:30pm - see events for details

What is ‘Alpha’?
The Alpha Course is exactly what it says it is; ‘An opportunity to explore the meaning of life’; It’s a series of 10 weekly discussions with a meal provided; It’s an opportunity for you to ask your own questions in a relaxed and friendly environment; It’s an opportunity to find out what questions other people have - you might be relieved to find you’re not the only one asking them; It’s an opportunity, if you wish, to say nothing at all and just listen; It’s also an opportunity to find out what Christians really believe about some of the most important questions of life…

What is Alpha not?
A one-way lecture about Christianity; An intrusive experience; a set of people who think they’ve ‘got all the answers’...

The Alpha Course is exactly what it says it is; ‘An opportunity to explore the meaning of life’

Who is Alpha intended for?
Maybe you attend a church already, but don’t feel that you fully understand what it’s all about? Maybe you don’t believe there is a God and would like a chance to explain why? Maybe you would like to believe there is a God, but you can’t seem to be able to make it all add up? Maybe you don’t know what you believe, but you’d like the chance to share your thoughts with others who may be in the same position? Maybe you did believe once, but that was a long time ago and so much has happened since then and you’d just like a chance
to find God again? Or maybe none of these are you and you’d just like to get out of the house for one night a week and do something different for a change?

What is the format for Alpha?
Our courses run for 10 consecutive weeks starting at 7:30pm and running until 9:30pm. The main focus of the programme is to develop an open-minded and exploratory attitude through friendship and fellowship. With this in mind, each evening begins with a sit-down meal.

Alpha also includes a weekend event, which takes place just beyond the half-way stage of the course; We know that that sounds like a daunting commitment in the first few weeks, but we’re confident that if you’ve stuck with us up to that point, when it arrives, the weekend event will be something you’re really looking forward to!
The course is held at our main site on Beancroft Street, Castleford and is free-of-charge.
